Registration
Urban Typhoon welcomes registration from students, architects, urbanists, artists, designers, media & communication specialists, social scientists, activists, creative people, dreamers, and idealists of all kinds and from all over the world.
The number of non-local (only residents of Dharavi are considered as local) registrants is limited to 50. All participants will work in small teams on a specific issue or project. Each team will be composed of local and international participants.
The projects will involve an engagement with the residents of Koliwada in Dharavi that can be expressed in themes, approaches, designs, solutions and models from the perspective, skills and histories that each participant brings to the workshop.
Participants should be ready to work hard in a difficult context. Dharavi is a difficult place. The main challenge for all participants will be to bridge cultural and language differences and make the most of the skills and knowledge that each brings to the team.
We expect all participants to learn tremendously in the process. At the same time, the workshop aims at producing ideas and visions for the future of Koliwada, as requested by the residents. Exploration in many fields and direction is highly encouraged, as it will inform the urban design proposals.
No previous knowledge of architecture or urban planning is required, but technical skills in any area helpful to the objectives of the workshop will be extremely valued. As you fill up the registration form, please specify how you think you can contribute to the workshop.
If possible, participants should bring their laptop. There will be safe storage place for all equipment on the workshop site. Internet access will be available.
With Regard to accomodation for outstation participants: Urban Typhoon has made arrangments for 50 beds (in shared two, three or five person per room accomodation) in a hotel and guest-house in Dharavi itself. The rooms are very basic - but clean and air-conditioned.
All participants are asked to support the workshop with a donation. The suggested donation for students from outside India is $100, for non-student international participants $300. The suggested donation for non-local Indians is INR 500. Dharavi residents are not requested any donation. These donations will help finance the workshop, which is absolutely non-for-profit. In case you would like to participate but are unable to donate anything, please explain it in the form. Institutions / schools willing to register as a group should contact us.
All participants will be offered lunch and invited to a final party. The fee includes common expenses such as the workshop space, equipment and workshop material, party, and hot drinks during the workshop.
